READ PSALM 17

Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings. (Psalm 17:8)

What does “apple of your eye” mean? In the original Hebrew it meant “the little man of the eye.” As you look into someone’s eye (if they will let you get that close!), you can see yourself reflected in the pupil of their eyeball as a little person. The eye is also the most vulnerable part of the body. Just think of how our body naturally reacts when dust gets in our eye or someone pokes it.

To be the apple in God’s eye means to experience His nearness and protection.  We need His nearness, especially in times we are separated by social distancing. We need His protection from fears and anxieties that flood our thoughts. As we live life with Jesus today, rest in his protection and enjoy his nearness. And look forward to the Day when you will see Him face to face (v15).
