O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you (Psalm 63:1)
The only one who could fully satisfy David’s heart was God. No one can fill the longing that our souls have but Him. No amount of stuff or pleasures of this life can fill the God-sized void in our hearts. David sought after God. Even God’s gifts cannot substitute for His presence. It is God’s love, not His stuff, that is better than life (v3). As life seemingly shifts to a new normal, by God’s Spirit, let’s not rush back to the temporary things that we once thought gave life. But instead drink deeply into the love of Jesus for ultimate joy.
The well-known Ravi Zacharias put it this way, “I came to Him because I did not know which way to turn. I remained with Him because there is no other way I wish to turn. I came to Him longing for something I did not have. I remain with Him because I have something I will not trade. I came to Him as a stranger. I remain with Him in the most intimate of friendships.”
