READ PSALM 46

But he would feed you with the finest of the wheat, and with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.” (Psalm 81:16)

Have you ever prepared a dish for your friend or family member, where you labored hours over it? You were so excited for them to try it because you know how good it is, but when you were ready to serve it to them they had already eaten. They had picked up fast food, stuffed themselves and were too full to taste your delicious dish. We too can miss out on the feast that God has for us.

God knows exactly what we need but also what fills us with greatest delight. God offered His people full satisfaction in Him, but His people refused His offer (v8). Instead they longed for their life of slavery in Egypt eating the food of bondage. So God gave them over to their hearts’ desires (v12), and most of them would die in the desert without tasting the Lord’s feast.

Jesus would come to His people years later offering Himself as the true bread that comes from Heaven. In Him his people would be satisfied and live forever. This deep joy and delight in Jesus would cause the Apostle Paul to write that no matter how favorable or unfavorable his life circumstances are, he can experience contentment in Jesus (Philippians 4:11-13). Don’t miss out on the feast that God has for you in Jesus. Sink your teeth into the love of God today as you savor His word, dwell in His presence and soak in His love through His people.
