READ PSALM 94

When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul. (Psalm 94:19)

God gives us his comfort in difficult circumstances, but He also allows difficult circumstances to open our hearts to receive his comfort. Just as a hot day makes drinking water more refreshing, God’s word may be more readily received in hard seasons and circumstances. In this case, the hardship was not only to an individual but to a community of people.

These who held positions of power abused their authority to take advantage of others (v20-12). They acted as if God will not hold them accountable (v7). Yet the psalmist knows better. He found comfort knowing that God will help His people through suffering, and God will punish the wicked fully (v23).

No matter what you face today, God meets you where you are at. Whatever hardship you are facing, receive God’s comfort through His word, through prayer and through His people. Embrace the love that God pours into your heart by the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5). Let God “cheer” your soul.
