Know that the LORD, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. (Psalm 100:3)
Live life from your identity as God’s child. Imagine two types of families. One family although imperfect nurtures and affirms their children. The keiki know that they are loved and fully accepted by their parents. The kids live life from their family identity. The second family is incredibly unhealthy. The parents are frequently disengaged with their children. The keiki constantly question if their parents like them let alone love them. They desperately live life trying to earn their parents acceptance.
Because we are adopted God’s family, we live from our identity, not for it. That’s what this psalm is about. In this psalm, the calls upon the reader to praise God (v1), serve and sing to Him (v2). This lifestyle comes from knowing our identity. That we are God’s own (v2) and knowing that we are deeply loved by Him. So much so that He gave His one and only Son to take the penalty for our sins.
Maybe serving God and simply living life has become dry, dreary and burdensome. Maybe you have forgotten that the motivation and power in living life is in believing who you are in God (identity) and God’s good intentions towards you. Before you step into the opportunities and relationships today, prayerfully remind yourself of who you are in God (v2) and who He is to you (v5).
