Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases. (Psalm 115:3)
In our current lives, there are many things we want to do but simply cannot. The activities and relationships we once enjoyed a few months ago may seem like distant memories. In these peculiar times, we are reminded that we are human, which means we are unable to do all that we want to do.
God is unlike us. He rules from heaven, and we are on earth. He does everything He pleases. God is never backed into a corner. He’s never tricked or surprised by changing circumstances. He’s never having to figure out how to respond to global crises. Or having to readjust expectations from fickle humans. God is never a victim of circumstances. Rather God works all things according to His purpose and plan (Ephesians 1:11). Even at moments in history where it seemed God could not do all that he wanted, God did. Before Jesus was betrayed, arrested and crucified, He said that no one takes His life from Him, but He willingly lays it down (John 10:18). Jesus’ death on the cross was not a Plan B or “oops” in God’s agenda. Rather it was exactly how God had planned to rescue His people from the very beginning (Genesis 3:15).
Because God does all He pleases, be encouraged today that God is in control. Rest knowing that you are not God and stand in worshipful awe in light of God’s ability to use difficult and evil circumstances for our ultimate benefit and His glory.
