Blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in his ways! (Psalm 128:1)
Obedience to God can often be painted as following dry dusty rules that are crafted to rob you of any pleasure and happiness in your life. Perhaps there are people in your life, or maybe even yourself, who make following God look this way. Yet, this is not the accurate description for those who fear the Lord. The psalmist describes them as blessed (happy).
Think about children. When their parents correct them, the child may not have the capacity to see how that instruction is for their best. They have a limited view of their lives and circumstance. They need to trust that their parents know what is best and is looking about for their best interest. Walking in God’s ways involves trusting Him and His intentions towards us. God demonstrated His love towards us by giving His one and Only Son. He “made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2 Corinthians 5:21. We can trust that His ways is intended for our joy in Him.
As we ponder His great love towards us, let it lead us to stand in greater fear and awe in how great and good God is. And from that motivation, let us walk in His ways by the strength of the Holy Spirit.
