READ PSALM 138

For though the LORD is high, he regards the lowly, but the haughty he knows from afar. (Psalm 138:6)

David is filled with praise towards God. He marvels at God’s loving faithfulness (v1). He’s thankful for God’s character (name) and word (v2). Even those kings considered to be great on this earth will sing of the glory of God (v3). Then David shifts to focus on the lowly and God’s care for them. Even though God is high and exalted, he draws near to the humble.

Maybe you are at a low point in your life. Perhaps as a follower of Jesus you are experiencing difficulties in the workplace, challenges in building healthy relationships or simply fighting to trust God in the midst of the current events in our world. And you feel forgotten by friends, overlooked by co-workers and neglected by family members. In those moments, it’s tempting to look at your circumstances and spiral into never-ending despair. It’s easy to isolate yourself to hide from the rest of the world. But, God regards you. He sees you in your circumstance, understands you and has the power to save you.

He did it around 2,000 years ago, when He came to earth to die on the cross for undeserving rebels like you and me. And that act is proof that if He regarded you in your greatest need, which is reconciliation to the Father, then He regards you in your current place of need. Turn to Him today to find rest and strength because He regards the lowly.
