READ PSALM 139

LORD, you have searched me and known me! (Psalm 139:1)

God knows us better than we know ourselves. In our hyper-individualized society, many messages of self-discovery and self-worship flood our films and feeds to the point of being desensitized to its underlining message. Perhaps you’ve been in search for your identity, personhood and purpose in life only to find yourself confused and questioning your thought process.

This psalm is good news! Because you have a Creator who knows all your ways (v3), who was aware of you before you were aware of yourself, who was intricately involved in your formation (v13-16), and knows every day you will live on this earth (v16), you need not create your own identity but embrace your identity given to you by your Maker.

As humans beings, we have been created in the image of God to know Him personally and represent Him beautifully to the world. Humanity rebelled against this awesome opportunity when they chose to redefine and repurpose themselves against their Creator, which did not lead to freedom but to slavery to sin. In His love for His creation, He gave us His Son to redeem us from this slavery and by His Spirit give us a new identity as children of the King, fully embraced and fully known. As you live out your calling to reflect Jesus to the world around, let His Spirit continue to shape you to be more like Him as He exposes areas in your life where we are missing His grace (v23-24).
